The field of mass media is a stream of creative field and aspiration friendly for the college youth, rather than the theoretical and scientific-based fields in Science and Commerce. But, the mass media stream is one of the most underrated streams, partially by the millennials and mostly by the generation above them. There are consistent things they get to hear, which are commented on by people, with the least knowledge of the stream:

How will this field be helpful?

This field is like a bridge for every course for getting contacts and connections. For example, if a building is designed by architects, created by engineers, and funded by commercial organizations, needs the help of mass media to broadcast the creation of the building to the audiences and the public.

What will you become, after you join this field?

The stream of mass media or mass communication is a vast domain, with multiple options to work and practice and learn the basics to work in different organizations. The main forte of the individual can be well developed if taken in this field. The several fields are graphic design, animation, VFX, production, advertising, research, journalism, economic development, social media management, etc.

Not a secured field with enough remuneration.

Job security is what the elders require during job placement. But the aspirational students who wish to work begin as a freelancer, selling different ideas and getting designated positions, and working with different ultimatums, rather than working in a government office, in a 9 to 5 job.

How will you crack MBA after this course?

Every course has a carry forward to accomplish a course of MBA, for job security and secured future plannings. But mass media is a field more of work satisfaction and aspirational acceptance, rather than just getting money for working in a closed office cabin for 8-9 hours of employment every day.

Societal Thinking

Being a middle-class individual, every elderly citizen wishes to brag about their kids being successful in society. But due to the lack of knowledge about the course of mass media, they are unable to talk about their kids being a media professional. For example, a parent brags about their kids being a doctor or a CEO, but an elder citizen doubts talking about their kids being journalists, graphic designers, or a screenwriter.

Generation Gap

A graphic designer is a creative artist who mixes the combination of art and technology and creates a designed output, which should be visually appropriate, be it two-dimensional cartoons or three-dimensional animations, or visual effects for live-action characters/scenes. Social Media is a broadcasting platform that is widely approached and explored by an enormous number of audiences. Cinematography is the art of visual storytelling. A cinematographer can also be referred to a photographer for the movies. He/she is also called the director of photography (DOP) is the crew chief and is responsible for the camera and the lighting.

What does a cinematographer do?

The director and the screenwriter have certain visions for a movie, which are translated by the cinematographer. You will also work closely with the executive producer to coordinate pre-production tasks such as setting up filming locations, conducting pre-interviews, securing filming permits, and establishing budgets.

Video editor- He/she makes the changes in the post-production of a film. Works with the director to get the best outcome for the movie with the goal of storytelling most effectively. This involves a lot of cutting and rearranging of shots and scenes.

Camera production assistant- Helps in the easy movement of the equipment and wires required for the equipment. They work mostly like a regular production assistant but have a primary focus on the camera department.

Videographer- The capturing of the raw footage and covering shoot on sets and different locations are taken care of by the videographer. They also help the video editor in editing the clips along with filming. They are also responsible for putting additional props and any backups required.

Skills Required for Becoming a Cinematographer

Communication- No matter what kind of assignment a cinematographer is working on, communication is crucial. Both verbal and nonverbal communication is included in this. Good communication skills are essential to allow others and yourself to understand information more  accurately and quickly. In contrast, poor communication skills lead to frequent misunderstandings and frustration.

Time Management- Like in any other field, time management is also an important skill that a cinematographer must have or develop.
